"Success is a reflection of your commitment to excellence." - Lee J. Colan, author and leadership expert
Are you a highly motivated tween or teen girl who wants to make a difference in the world? Sign up for our nine-week class, Building Virtues for Successful Leadership. This class will be led by Dr. Carol Strip Whitney, a teacher and gifted education specialist with the Olentangy Local School District, and is open to all girls who will be in 5th through 8th grades in fall 2011. The class will meet Monday evenings from 7:00-8:30PM, from September 12 through November 7.
The purpose of the class is to develop solid, lifelong strategies to build character and virtues which magnify each person's unique talents, gifts and leadership abilities. One might ask, "How can I possibly know my individual needs regarding talents, gifts and leadership abilities if someone doesn't help me?" That's the purpose of this class. Students will read Sean Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens and discuss a variety of ethics articles and readings from William J. Bennett's The Book of Virtues.
Effort is the key to success, according to Carol S. Dweck, who states, "The most persistent students do not ruminate about their own failure, but think of mistakes as problems to be solved." This class will involve goal setting, virtue building, ethical solutions to daily problems, strategies for building stamina, overcoming impulsivity, thinking and communicating with clarity, striving for accuracy, respect, integrity, compassion, and the overall model of building character through God's plan for each person's life.
To sign up, please print and complete an application and return it before September 12.
